Via Fairy Creek hiking trail and Three Sisters/Mt. Procter south bowl. A beautiful Fernie ski tour into some big terrain.
Logistics
Park at the Fairy Creek trail head, just off to the side of the Fernie Visitor Centre. We parked at the end of Canyon Trail on the west side of Fairy Creek and followed a road in, but this required entering a restricted area for the city’s water treatment facility and a bushwack to get back onto the hiking trail. Save yourself the trouble and just start at the highway trail head!
Trip Report
Follow the Fairy Creek hiking trail north towards Three Sisters. Early season conditions, but the hiking trail is a great way to avoid bushwacking through the willows!
Inspecting the Mt. Procter hiking trail sign and map at the end of Fairy Creek. The real climbing now begins! See you on the black diamonds.
Finally out of the willows.
Looking ahead up the bowl towards Three Sisters (left) and Mt. Procter (Right). Our approximate route to gain the bench is shown above in red.
Traversing across a gully to gain the bench below Mt. Procter. Snow quality is improving!
The sun decided to come out and give us a view back towards Fairy Creek, Mt. Fernie (centre) and Three Sisters (right).
More trail breaking through boot-top powder with some great views.
Below the summit ridge of Mt. Procter (summit on looker’s right). Pick your way through the trees as best you can.
Some of the best snow we have ever skied.
More great skiing down to Fairy Creek.
