A super fun feature close to town with moderate slopes, but a mild bushwack at the bottom. Best as a mid to late season day.

Fernie Backcountry Ski Tour
The goal of this site is to help folks have fun, and keep track of, backcountry skiing around Fernie, BC. You won't find much commentary on avalanche stuff since I'm not a guide nor do I want to be. I'm just your average, non-rad skier with a GPS and a camera who cheats on his wife. It's entirely your own fault if you end up in trouble so use your own best judgement when out touring. And remember kids… keep your dick in your pants!

Via Tunnel Creek and a slide path created by a recent size 3+ avalanche. Awesome terrain with an easy exit if you find the old logging road. Bring a rope for ski/cornice cutting.
Fernie Ski Tour
A traverse of Fish, Liverworst, Steep Mother and Orca bowls. Lots of options to ski along the way. I would give this tour a 3-star rating if there was more of a snow pack to cover the willows down into Orca Bowl.

Via Tunnel Creek. A seldom skied area that is sure to deliver great turns if the usual Tunnel Hut lines are skied out or if you are looking for a safe tour.
Fernie Backcountry Ski Tour
Via Fernie Alpine Resort’s Whitepass chair and Lost Boys Pass. A fun slack-country objective that provides good skiing away from the crowds of the resort.

Via Fernie Ridge’s southwest slopes. A strange Fernie ski tour, made stranger by the sounds of gunshots from a nearby shooting range, cornice collapses, wind-hammered terrain, and plans to develop the area into a ski resort and pedestrian community sharing the name of a suicidal UFO cult from the 70’s.

Via Tunnel Hut. A great Fernie backcountry ski area for making safe, mellow tree laps. Snow quality was unreal.

Via Island Lake Lodge and Orca Road. Our chosen route up Orca’s drainage prevented this one from getting 3 stars. Stick to Orca Road. Wait for mid-season.
